Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN) Ondo visits FUTA

Members of Medical Women Association of Nigeria, (MWAN), Ondo State Chapter
led by the State President, Dr. Bolanle Akinwonmi paid a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Prof. Olanike Oladiji today.

According to Dr. Akinwonmi, MWAN is an affiliate of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) with Chapters across the Federation made up of qualified medical and dental practitioners that are registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.

She noted that the group is interested in the health of Nigerians particularly in women and children and has been able to achieve this through advocacy, health policies and community health programs.

She also said the visit was primarily to foster collaboration and partnership with the Institution just as she acknowledged the giant strides of Prof. Oladiji attained as the first female VC noting that FUTA has remained a foremost institution in Research and Technology in Nigeria.

Particularly, she stressed that MWAN is ready to partner with FUTA in mentoring and training of students in the Medical School in all ways possible.

One major highlight of the visit is the presentation of a gift to Prof. Oladiji in recognition of her strides and achievements as a pacesetter.

Responding, Prof. Oladiji appreciated the group for the honour just as she acknowledged that the gesture will go a long way in strengthening the university.

She also urged them as mentors to go beyond training and teach the medical students on how to take up leadership roles by deliberately working on their consciousness to become leaders

She also assured that as a budding medical school, their input as a group will be of great asset to the University.

Also on MWAN team include Dr Omolayo Olubosede, Dr. Aiyeku Olajumoke, Dr Orji Elohor, Dr. Olajide Bukola, Dr. Paul Odoh, Dr. Ndidi Okunnuga, Dr. Toyin Adeyalo- Ogundare and Dr. Enowo Patricia.
